A message from the Superintendent:
Vandercook Lake Community,
this afternoon 911 officials contacted our district that there was a possible threat in the community and advised our buildings to go into lockdown as a precautionary action. When we received the call from 911, Townsend Elementary had just been dismissed and the busses were headed on their routes Bus drivers were directed to head to the Middle Schoool gymnasium to drop off our elementary students until further notice. Shortly after the final bus was unloaded, the district was notified by 911 officials that the lockdown could be lifted. Details were shared that the initial report turned out to not be true and the students were never in any danger. Students were quickly loaded back onto their busses and delivered home somewhere between 30 and 40 minutes later than their usual time.
As the Superintendent, I was proud of how our staff handled the situation. Parapros, secretaries, bus drivers, administration and professional staff all delivered during this situation to ensure that the students in our care were safe and comforted during these tense moments. I am so proud to call myself a Jayhawk and to be a part of such a wonderful group.
Great Job Jayhawks!
Hello Jayhawk families. We were notified by the Jackson Police Department after school today of possible suspicious activity in our area. As a precaution, both Townsend Elementary and the middle/high school went into a lockdown. As a precaution, all elementary busses were routed to the middle school gym until the information was received from our police department. After securing the area, the police notified our administration to lift the lockdown due to the fact that it was a FALSE REPORT. All elementary students who ride a bus are currently being safely transported home at this time. Busses will run 30 to 40 minutes behind. As always, our students and staff safety are our number one concern here at Vandercook Lake. Thank you for your patience.
Transportation from all busses may be delayed 10-20 min today. We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your cooperation.
Middle school football practice for 7th and 8th graders has been cancelled for today. Enjoy your weekend! We hope to see you all at the HOME football game tonight!!
Thank you Department of Corrections for your awesome donation of school supplies!
