Today is the last day of February, and in Ms. Simpson's 1st & 2nd grade class, we talked about that the spirit of Black History month: love, kindness, respect, empathy, equality, and overcoming obstacles (among other traits) shouldn't cease just because the month ends.
Be proud of your students! They are a great group of individuals with a wonderful sense of right & wrong. They did such an AMAZING job with our Black History Month lessons & activities. I'm impressed.
We sang songs, danced, watched videos, listened to books, completed art projects, had some great discussions, and used our reading skills to read & seek out important details within text.
Some of the noteworthy individuals we learned about were: Benjamin Banneker, George Washington Carver, Langston Hughes, Bessie Coleman, Jackie Robinson, Henry Box Brown, Ruby Bridges, Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Mae Jemison, Jesse Owens, & many others.

We were filming our young Jayhawks learning today for our kindergarten round-up commercial. Spread the word- join the Jayhawk family! April 17th from 5:15-6:15pm at Townsend Elementary.
