Henry, pt 2

Today, the 1st & 2nd grade students in Ms Simpson's class learned about Henry Box Brown, an African American slave who mailed himself to freedom. We measured out the dimensions of the box (crate) that Henry used, and the kids got to climb inside to show how they would position themselves in such a small space. We talked about the fact that we don't know how thick the wood was (so the space inside the box was even smaller). We learned that Mr. Brown was an adult and, therefore, a lot bigger than them.
We watched a short video, an online storybook, and wrote a class poem.

If you're cleaning out closets and have clothes, shoes, coats that are ripped or stained and headed for the garbage, bring it to our ClothesBin instead! We earn $0.07 per pound for recycling 'never to be worn again' clothing items! Located by the middle school gym parking lot.

The Community Fitness Center is only open on Thursday(2/20/25) of this week.

The Jackson County Health Department will be coming to the MS/HS to do Vision Screening for all 7th & 9th grade students on Tuesday, March 4th during the school day. If you wish to have your student opted out you must provide a signed letter to the MS/HS office prior to March 4th. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
